Equipment

  • Serving board

Ingredients

Cheeses (Choose 3, 5, or 7, depending on party size)

  • Hard cheeses: manchego, cheddar, swiss, gouda, gruyere, parmesan
  • Soft cheese: brie, triple cream, goat cheese, havarti, burrata, cream cheese with pepper jelly on top optional

Meats

  • Cured Meats: prosciutto, salami, ham, chorizo, capicola, soppressata, summer sausage

Savory accompaniments

  • Nuts: almonds, candied pecans, pistachio nuts, cashews, walnuts, macadamia nuts
  • Briny items: olives, cocktail onions, cornichons, dill pickles, pepperoncini

Sweet accompaniments

  • Fresh fruit and berries: grapes, apples, pears, oranges, raspberries, blueberries
  • Dried fruit: apricots, cherries, figs, pineapple, mango
  • Crackers: pita crackers, whole grain crackers, croccantini, baguettes

Instructions

  • Choose your board, depending on your party size. You could always use multiple boards if needed.
  • Start with the cheese as it anchors the board. Work in odd numbers, choosing 3, 5, or 7 types of cheeses to place around the board.
  • Fold and add the meats: fold cured meats in half and fan them out like a deck of cards, or fold them in half twice for easy grabbing. For thin meat like prosciutto, fold into light and airy ribbons.
  • Add savory and sweet accompaniments, filling gaps while separating colors to allow bright colors to stand out. Place complementary foods together.
  • Fill in extra space with crackers, and then any remaining gaps with nuts or fruit.
